Capas, Tarlac – A case of arrogance and total madness.
This thought came as a National Bureau of Investigation officer from the bureau’s Manila office shot dead another NBI officer assigned in Tarlac at the Triple 888 Cockpit Coliseum, Barangay Dolores, here, yesterday.
In the report of PCInsp Augusto Pasamonte, chief of the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Branch (PIDMB), killed with 3 gunshots was Lavernie Vitug, 53 years old, a Security Officer of NBI-Tarlac.
While the other NBI officer suspected of shooting Vitug was identified as Boy De Castro, an Intelligence Officer at the NBI-Manila office, who hails from Concepcion, Tarlac.
Apparently, the two do not know each other.
Witness Elias Laxamana told police investigators that the altercation between the 2 NBI officers started when De Castro confronted Vitug for betting inside the cockpit arena in NBI uniform.
Vitug was allegedly irked by De Castro’s reprimanding and a heated altercation ensued between them up to the parking lot of the coliseum.
At the parking lot, Vitug took out his revolver pistol from his car and demanded to see De Castro’s NBI badge.
When De Castro was about to drive out his car, Vitug poked his gun to him which made De Castro alight from his vehicle and hurled his NBI badge to the victim then shot him 3 times with his own semi-automatic pistol.
Vitug was rushed to the Ospital ning Capas but was pronounced dead-on-arrival.
According to Pasamonte’s report to Tarlac Police Provincial Director PSSupt Westrimundo Obinque, De Castro escaped with Vitug’s revolver.
“Dahil sa sobrang yabang ng dalawang NBI, ang resulta, walang saysay na pagpatay. Isang kabaliwan”, said another witness who requested his name withheld./Nelson Bolos
