Books on Martial Law abuses donated in QC high school

MANILA – Books on the atrocities that happened when the country was under Martial Law were donated to students from Quezon City High School on Friday.

The books were donated by Senator Risa Hontiveros, who herself was a student activist who joined the first EDSA People Power Revolution.

These were copies of “Marcos Martial Law: Never Again Student Edition” written by veteran journalist Raissa Robles.
The same day, Hontiveros, herself an activist who participated in the first People Power Revolution did a storytelling session with the students and faculty of the said high school on the events during the dictatorship.
She was joined by former Commission on Human Rights Chairperson Etta Rosales.

The neophyte senator said that donating the books was “a small gesture to save history.”
“Efforts of historical revisionism can be thwarted by investing in this small project targeting our young people,” Hontiveros said.

She meanwhile expressed hope to get support from others and from school administrators as well noting that the book “to keep public the memory of Martial Law.”

“True stories matter. Aside from presenting statistics, young people are able to see themselves in stories of heroism and martyrdom,” she added.

While initially donated in Quezon City, Hontiveros said that copies will also be donated to public senior high schools all over the country. /PNA/RMA/ANP
