City of San Fernando named as country’s 2nd most competitive city

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -The City of San Fernando was once again named as most competitive city by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) during the 4th Regional Competitiveness Summit held Thursday at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

Out of 110 component cities that vied for this year’s Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) awards, San Fernando ranked second in the overall most competitive city category.

All 1,389 competing local government units (LGUs), divided into four categories namely 3rd-6th class municipalities; 1st-2nd class municipalities; component cities; and highly urbanized cities, were also measured into three convergent pillars including economic dynamism, government efficiency and infrastructure.

Under the component city category, the city ranked fouth in the economic dynamism pillar and landed eigth and sixth in the government efficiency and infrastructure pillar, respectively. Mayor Edwin Santiago said these recognitions are results of the local government’s collective efforts in improving the quality of life for Fernandinos through transparent, effective governance.

“Our city prioritizes education and boosts employment by growing businesses because we want every Fernandino to reach his fullest potentials and be globally competitive as well,” Santiago said.

More than the recognition, Santiago also that hE
considers the awards as inspirations to further “aim for excellence” and target a more progressive City of San Fernando.
