TARLAC CITY – Over 1,000 residents and farmers of Hacienda Luisita recently joined the peace caravan and signing of manifesto as a call for peace and unity.
Themed, “Kapayapaan, Kaunlaran, Pagkakaisa at Trabaho (Peace, Prosperity, Unity and Livelihood),” it was made to show unity and discourage any future violent protests from disrupting the area.
“Improved livelihood opportunities and prosperity can only happen when there is peace and order within the community,” Association of Barangay Captains President Edgar Sumat stated.
During the activity, multi-sectoral groups marched from Calumpang Intersection to Barangay Central covered court and forged a “Manifesto for Peace” to signify their commitment to achieve peace and harmony in the community.
“This seeks to deliver a clear message to everyone that the people in Hacienda Luisita just want to work towards progress, without any disruptions or commotions,” Sumat added. (CLJD/TJBM-PIA 3)
