Concepcion, Tarlac – – Pride of the town.
This was the statement of Mayor Andy Lacson to a hotel roomboy from this town who returned a bag containing P2.4 million cash, checks and valuables left behind by a costumer last week in a hotel where works.
In a special ceremony held yesterday at the municipal building to honor Arlan Sotto Sampang, 21, of Barangay Alfonso, Lacson said, ““Your honesty have brought prestige, pride and honor to our town and to all of us. You are a citizen that must be emulated”.
Sampang works at the Hotel Sogo in Dau, Mabalacat, Pampanga, where he found a small brown bag containing P2.4 Million, checks and several valuables left behind by a customer.
The hotel management said, Sampang immediately surrendered the bag to the hotel branch manager while cleaning the room occupied by the businessman-customer.
More than a day later, the customer returned inquiring of his bag not seriously expecting that he will still recover his money. The customer requested his name and address withheld but gave Sampang an early Christmas cash gift.
“Nang pagbalik ng customer, nagbakasakali lang siya na makikita pa niya ang kanyang bag, pero ibinalik namin ng walang bawas ang kanyang pera at mga mahahalagang bagay. Salamat sa katapatan ni Arlan (Sampang)”, said Mhar De Jesus, Hotel Sogo Area Manager.
Lacson bestowed Sampang the “highest commendation of the municipality for his exemplary honesty” and a cash gift.
He also offered Sampang to work at the municipal government saying, “people of your honesty are what we need in our government. Talagang kahanga-hanga ang natural niyang ugali, hindi siya nasilaw sa halos dalawa’t kalahating milyong pera”.
