Nueva Ecija farmers receive onion seeds

PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — The provincial government of Nueva Ecija on Thursday distributed onion seeds to farmers in this province.
Governor Cherry Domingo-Umali, together with local officials, distributed some 723 cans of onion seeds to farmers from the towns of Gabaldon, General Natividad, and Laur.
The distribution was made at the provincial capitol here under the program of the Provincial Agricultural Office.
“This is part of the continuing efforts of the provincial government to boost the onion industry in the province,” Umali said.
The farmers from Gabaldon town received 357 cans, Laur town, 265 cans and General Natividad, 101 cans of onion seeds.
The onion production in this province, which supplies 54 percent of the country’s annual output, declined due to armyworm infestation the past few months.
The Office of Provincial Agriculturist has earlier reported that at least 1,100 hectares of onion farms in 23 municipalities in the province were infested by armyworms./Marilyn Galang (PNA)
