Pampanga town farmers, fisherfolk receive livelihood assistance

LUBAO, Pampanga – Farmers and fisherfolk in this town continuously receive assistance from the municipal government led by Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab.

The municipal government, through the local agriculture office, on Friday distributed rice, certified palay seeds, five units robin pumps and 12 units knapsack sprayers to farmers; and fish vending vehicle, lantern lamp and gill nets to fishermen.

Some 400 indigent farmers were given rice subsidy worth a total of PHP400,000 while sampaguita growers of Barangay San Francisco were provided the pumps and sprayer to increase their yield of the locally-grown flower.

Municipal agriculturist Maria David bared that each of the pump costs PHP62,500 while the sprayers are bought at PHP2,500 each.

These equipment, she said, will boost the production in the 23-hectare sampaguita farms in the said barangay.

The recipients form part of at least 4,000 individual farmers in the 44 barangays of the municipality who regularly receive assistance from the local government unit.
More than 1,000 of the farmers have already been given assistance during the recent birthday celebration of Mayor Pineda-Cayabyab who shelled out PHP1 million from her personal funds for the project.

Thirty bags of certified seeds worth P1,400 per bag were also given out to farmer-beneficiaries.

Administrator Elizalde Bernal, in his message, asked the recipients to take good care of the equipment and assured the farmers and fisherfolk of the consistent support from the town leadership. (PNA)
