CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) invites photo enthusiasts based in Central Luzon to join the first Resilience Mobile Photography Contest.
“This seeks to raise young people’s awareness on natural and human-induced hazards and the country’s disaster risk reduction and management program,” RDRRMC 3 Chairperson and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Josefina Timoteo said.
It is part of the upcoming observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July, and carries the theme resilience, which refers to the Filipinos’ ability to adapt to and recover from hazards and emergencies.
The contest is open to all Filipino students currently enrolled in high school or college aged 16 years old and up whose work has not been submitted or won in any photography contest before.
“Entries must be created and taken by the contest participant from January 1 to July 20, 2016 only, and may include various programs, activities and projects that deals with disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, rehabilitation, and recovery. Each participant is allowed to submit a maximum of three entries only,” Timoteo explained.
Moreover, entries must have a corresponding title and caption. The caption must indicate the place where the image was taken and must have an accurate description of what the photo is all about.
They should be taken using the best setting of the mobile device, and should not be edited or enhanced using a desktop or laptop.
They must likewise be in full color, landscape orientation and digital format.
Those who are interested are enjoined to register online at the official website of Office of Civil Defense (www.ocd.gov.ph) and fill out the online registration form.
Deadline for submission of entries is at 5:00 PM of July 20.
Entries shall be judged based on the following criteria: adherence to the theme –25%; composition – 25%; photographic quality – 25%; and visual impact – 25%.
A preliminary judging shall be held to select the 12 best entries, which shall compete in the finals, based on the given criteria. These will also be uploaded at the OCD Facebook account Civil Defense PH, to determine the Most Popular Photo Award.
The grand winner takes home Php60,000 and plaque; second prize – Php50,000 and plaque; third prize – Php40,000 and plaque; while the fourth and fifth placers shall be awarded with Php30,000 and Php20,000, respectively and plaque.
The seven other finalists, on the other hand, will each receive Php10,000 and certificate; while the most popular photo will get Php30,000 and plaque.
