F. Tañedo Street was named after a forgotten hero of Tarlac, Gen. Francisco Tañedo
His father, Don Damaso Miguel Tañedo was a native of Tarlac town and lived most of his days in a ‘barrio’ now named Balibago I and later on married Regina Romero.
The first ‘gobernadorcillo’ of Tarlac town, Don Carlos Miguel, was the great grandfather of Don Francisco. Don Carlos was the son of a Spanish friar and a rich ‘haciendera’ who was closely related to King Felipe II of Spain.
In 1889, Don Francisco who was known by his alias Don Kikoy, became a lieutenant of the colonialist government of Tarlac and led until 1891.
According to historian Michael Charleston Briones Chua, he co-founded the first masonic lodge in Tarlac, the Logia Filipino Gran Nacional Orient, and was one of the leaders of the Katipunan in the province (Tarlac being one of the first eight provinces to revolt against Spain in 1896).
Don Kikoy was accused to have had underground activities during the Philippine Revolution and was arrested after having conflict with the ‘guardia civil’. He refused to implicate fellow revolutionaries and mason which led to his torture and death.
A martyr and a hero indeed./Tarlac CIO
