ANGELES CITY – Angeles City hosted over the weekend Piyestang Luzon 2016 which was co-organized by National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Arte Bulakenyo Foundation Inc.
“The three-day event, which was held at MarQuee Mall and Angeles City Library and Information Center, aims to highlight the facets of Luzon culture towards fostering cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity,” NCCA Public Affairs and Information Office head Rene Sanchez Napenas said.
It featured performances from Horse Festival of Clark, Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City, Thanksgiving Festival of Apayao, Dulansangan of Malolos City, Dayami Festival of Nueva Ecija, Higantes Festival of Angono in Rizal, Mango Festival of Zambales, and Kneeling Carabao Festival of Pulilan in Bulacan.
There were also demonstrations of traditional games including patintero, piko, sipa, luksong baka, sack race, luksong tinik, moro-moro, touching ball, and tug-of-war.
Moreover, a fashion show dubbed “Rampa Luzon” had six segments: collections of Angeles City-based designers; Indigenous Outfits from Quezon, Apayao, Igorot, Palawan, and Batanes; Northern Luzon; The Evolution of the Filipino Dress: Traje De Mestiza to the Terno; Maria Clara; and Ethnic Fabrics meet Modern Weaves.
The culinary exhibit, on the other hand, featured Empanada Ilocos, Tupig, Pakbet, Bangus, Sisig, Arobung Camaru, Tugak a Batute, and Longganisa versions of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Ilocos among others.
“Other activities include a Forum on Traditional Justice System and Demonstration and Symposium on Traditional Medicine and Healing Practices from Luzon,” Napenas added. (CLJD-PIA 3)
