CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Around 120 students of Manabayukan Elementary School in Capas, Tarlac each received solar lamps from state firm Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). “Solar lamps will not only allow students to read and study better at night but will also reduce exposure to harmful fumes from kerosene lamps,” BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said in a press statement. The donation is in line with the LightEd PH program of the Department of Education, which aims to provide a beneficial learning environment to students living in areas with no electricity. BCDA adopted the project as part of its corporate social responsibility program to empower stakeholders in Tarlac where it builds the country’s first green, smart and disaster-resilient metropolis. The 9,450-hecatare Clark Green City (CGC) will showcase the country’s capability to build a sustainable and modern city. It will adopt smart and green features like compact walkable communities with generous open spaces, bike lanes, mass transportation, smart utilities, high-bandwidth connectivity, protected biodiversity, energy efficiency and urban farming, among others, making it one of the country’s most livable cities of the future./CLJD-PIA 3
