CAMP ALEJO S. SANTOS, Bulacan — Some 2,431 firearms have been accounted for, province-wide, in the course of the massive campaign and intensified implementation of “Oplan Katok” by the police from Aug. 2 to Nov. 5 this year.
Senior Supt. Chito G. Bersaluna, director of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office (BPPO), said in a press conference here Thursday that of the figure, 180 assorted firearms were voluntarily surrendered by gun owners to the police stations of cities and towns of this province for safekeeping; 350 had their licenses renewed; while the rest are still undergoing the process of renewal.
Bersaluna said “Oplan Katok” is a house-to-house effort of the police to convince and remind holders of responsible gun ownership and to renew their licenses and permits so they would not be charged for illegal possession of firearms.
“This effort is part of the Bulacan Police’s preparation for the upcoming 2019 mid-term elections to prevent and eliminate the use of unlicensed firearms in election-related violence and other criminal activities,” he added. (PNA)
