Chinese billionaire reiterates support to Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, donates P4B for construction of rehab centers

FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija, — Chinese billionaire Huang Rulun reiterated today his support to President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, donating Php4 billion for construction of two drug rehabilitation centers in the country.

“As an overseas Chinese in the Philippines, I fully support President Duterte’s admirable campaign and decided to donate P1.4 billion to construct two Drug Rehabilitation Centers with a total area of 100,000 square meters… This is our modest efforts to make the Philippines peaceful, stable, and harmonious,” Huang said during the inauguration of the Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DATRC) Phase I.

Upon completion of all four phases, the 60,000-square meter facility inside Fort Magsaysay can accommodate up to 10,000 patients.

“Philippines and China are close neighbors. The people of the two countries have maintained a deep, friendly, and long lasting relationship especially since President Duterte took office. He exerted efforts in strengthening the ties between China and the Philippines, promoting world peace and opening a new page in the China-Philippine relations,” Huang furthered.

“I firmly believe that under the leadership of President Duterte, with the promotion of (Chinese President) Xi Jinping’s proposal of One Belt, One Road initiative as the international economic development strategy and with the joint efforts of various sectors in the Philippines, these beautiful islands will surely set sail again and stand tall in the world. The friendship between China and the Philippines will surely resonate in all areas and be too strong to break,” he added.

Huang is the Chair of the Century Golden Resources Group. He is a philanthropist, listed in the Hurun Philanthropy List for 13 consecutive years.

Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial went to Beijing, China last September to sign a Deed of Donation for the construction of the Mega DATRC. (CLJD-PIA 3)
