TARLAC CITY – City Veterinarian Dr. Julieta Parairo and her staff headed to Barangay Dalayap to adminsiter anti-rabies vaccine to dogs and hemosep shots to agricultural animals on November 9, 2016.
The city vet has already covered 71 barangays, several sitios (villages) and subdivisions.
Dr. Parairo said Dalayap is one of the barangays where they have successfully administered vaccination to a large number of recipients.
It was a very productive program due to the assistance given by Brgy. Chairman Jesus Ibarra and the council. They gathered many pet and farm animal owners and encouraged them to have their dogs and cattle vaccinated.
The city vet personnel likewise administered vaccination against hemorrhagic septicemia to agricultural animals such as carabaos, cows and goats.
HS is a highly fatal disease among ruminants and an acute form of pasteurellosis affecting tropical regions.
This bacterial infection may sometimes be transferred to humans through bites and scratches.
According to the city vet personnel, there had been a near HS outbreak in 2012 here. The administration of this vaccine will prevent a repeat of the said incident and reduce the possibility of affecting the livelihood of farmers who mainly rely on livestock raising and agriculture as a source of income.
Dr. Parairo assured that they will come back with medicine and more vials of vaccine as requested by the farmers and residents of Dalayap./Tarlac CIO
