The Department of Trade and Industry through its Negosyo Center in Tarlac brought 25 persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and cooperative members to the Design Center of the Philippines in Pasay City on September 17, 2017 for training on processing water lily plants.
The participants wereexisting and potential micro entrepreneurs who have sought the assistance of the TarlacNegosyo Center. FelyPaximo and Cindy Maldegrim, experts from the Design Center of the Philippines, taught the participants on Dyeing, Bleaching, Scouring and Lamination of waterlily stalks. The stalks are processed into household decorations, bags and organic packaging material for food items.
Negosyo Centers were established by virtue of Republic Act No. 10644 or the Go Negosyo Act. One of the functions of the centers as providedby law is to provide training on entrepreneurship and livelihood skills./Warren Serrano
