DILG confers 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance to 37 LGUs in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) conferred today the 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) to 37 local government units (LGUs) in Central Luzon.

DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno personally conferred the recognition to the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Tarlac as well as the cities of Angeles, Balanga, Mabalacat, and San Fernando.

Also, the municipalities of Bagac, Dinalupihan, Mariveles, and Pilar in Bataan; Calumpit, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Guiguinto, Plaridel, and San Rafael in Bulacan; and Bongabon, Cuyapo, General Mamerto Natividad, San Leonardo, and Talavera in Nueva Ecija.

SGLG was likewise conferred to the towns of Apalit, Floridablanca, Guagua, Lubao, Magalang, Mexico, Minalin, San Luis, San Simon, and Santa Rita in Pampanga; Pura, Ramos, San Clemente, and Victoria in Tarlac; and San Felipe in Zambales.

“To be conferred with the SGLG, a LGU must pass three core criteria namely financial administration, disaster preparedness, and social protection as well as any of the following essential criteria: business friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order, and environmental protection,” DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan said.

“Out of the 1,672 LGUs assessed nationwide, 306 met the 2016 SGLG criteria. National government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector participated in the assessment,” Dijan added.

Winners received an incentive fund called Performance Challenge Fund which can be utilized for the implementation of local development projects./(CLJD-PIA 3)
