TARLAC CITY (CIO)— The water lily livelihood project of Mayor Cristy Angeles is gaining multi-agency support.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Tarlac has recognized the endeavor of the current administration in providing an alternate income source for unemployed residents of this city through water lily weaving.
The said project has been gaining popularity since its launching late last year after conducting ‘Lakbay Aral’ at the SIPAG Villar Foundation in Las Piñas.
DOST and the Special Livelihood Projects Management Office yesterday awarded certificates of completion to the participants of the 2-day seminar on water hyacinth processing and finishing.
The said training enhanced the skills of the weavers on water hyacinth drying, stalk preparation, dyeing technique, leatherized sheet-making, and weaving.
Water lily has been considered a menace in small bodies of water here but now it has become an abundant source of income for Tarlaqueños.
