Tarlac City – During the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2016, Mayor Maria Cristina Angeles cited the commitment and sacrifices of teachers in molding the minds of the youth.
“It is a way for students, parents and community to appreciate our mentors for imparting their wisdom and skills to the citizens of the future,” she said.
Mayor Cristy added this year’s Teachers’ Day theme, “Guro, Kabalikat sa Pagbabago”, poses a challenge to the teachers and the academic community to play a more active role in changing the country for the better.
She said the local school board funds will be utilized for the benefit of mentors and improvement of school facilities, adding that teachers and public schools are always on top of the list of priorities of her administration.
Mayor Cristy also assured the delivery of services, support and assistances to make life easier for the teachers while sharing their wisdom to the youth.
The students were congratulated by Mayor Cristy for inspiring the teachers and Tarlac City Schools Division officials headed by Superintendent Alberto Saludez and Assistant Superintendent Sol Carriaga.
The Department of Education encouraged the participants of the celebration of the World Teachers’ Day to revitalize the image of and respect for teaching as a vocation by increasing public awareness on the value of teachers in the Philippine society.
The said annual celebration has its historical roots when the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization recognized the crucial role of education and the importance of teachers to the global community on October 5, 1966./Tarlac CIO
