Seven NGCP scholars hailing from different municipalities in Nueva Vizcaya, La Union, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bukidnon are now ready to enter the real world as they graduate from college.
Jennybeth Panas, Dorcas Castillo, Benedict MerwilCion, Mark Bonnie Roxas, Steven John Armas, Golden Grace Batistis, and Jeremie Castro, took up ElectricalEngineering, Agriculture, and Education in college, with NGCP shouldering theireducational expenses and monthly allowances. As part of its scholarship program,NGCP offered members of its host communities, particularly from the indigenousand marginalized sectors, an opportunity to complete their college education.
Jennybeth, a BS Education graduate from Nueva Vizcaya and a Kalanguya tribe member, said, “I availed my scholarship benefits relieved with the thought that mymother will no longer work so hard just to provide for my tuition fees andallowances.”
Golden Grace, a BS Agriculture graduate from Bukidnon and a Manobo tribe member, thankedNGCP “for sharing (its) blessings and for giving me thatopportunity which became a big part of my success.”
Dorcas, a BS Education graduate of Zambal-Aeta descentfrom Zambales, was just as grateful. “Dininig ng Panginoon ang aking panalangin. Laking tuwa ko nang ako’y matanggap sa scholarship program. Dahil sa tulong ng NGCP nakapagtapos ako sa kursoko at ipinagmamalaki ko na ako ay isang Katutubo na natulungan ng NGCP,” she shared.
Mark, a BS Electrical Engineering scholar from Bulacan, also stated, “The grant also enabled me to pay part of my Board Exam review fees. I hope that many more students will benefit from the program.”
Jeremie, a BS Agriculture graduate from Bukidnon confirmed, “The scholarship helped me pursue my studies and support my brother andsister. NGCP helped us continue our dream. It is one of the greatest blessings of my family.”
NGCP confirms its continuous advocacy of education. “NGCP shares the Filipino parent’s dream of a college diploma for every child. Some of the best andbrightest engineers and personnel, not only in NGCP but throughout the rest of the global industry, are products of scholarships and proof that financial difficulties should not hinder students from succeeding. At NGCP, we pledge ourfull support to continue giving the best opportunities to promising butfinancially incapable students across the country.”
The scholarship program was institutionalized in 2015 as a nationwide CSR program for members of the indigenous peoples (IP) and indigent sector residing in communities hosting NGCP facilities. Earlier, the scholarship grant covered IP members living in NGCP’s host communities from Bukidnon. With the extension of the scholarship to various areas in the Philippines where NGCP operates, a total of one hundred seven (107) students have benefitted from the scholarship program to date.
NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. The consortium, which holds the 25-year concession contract to operate the country’s power transmission network, is comprised of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp. led by Henry Sy, Jr., Calaca High Power Corporation led by Robert Coyiuto, Jr., and the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) as technical partner./NGCP
