Tarlac City holds First Kaisa Arnis Championship

TARLAC CITY (CIO) — Mayor Cristy Angeles and the Tourism Council has embraced the modern Arnis ‘tapi-tapi’, a Filipino self-defense fighting arts, at the First Kaisa Festival here.

The good Mayor and the Tourism Council together with the City Sports Development Division and Berimbolo Martial Arts and Functional Fitness Center have made another ‘first’ possible in the history of sports here by organizing the First Kaisa Arnis Championship at the Tarlac City Plazuela on January 18, 2017.

It is likewise considered the First Modern Arnis Tapi Tapi International Tournament as the champions may compete in world bamboo spirits martial arts competitions.

The City Government extended its appreciation and commendation to Grand Master Bambit Dulay of Berimbolo and the Modern Arnis Tapi Tapi Officers for participating in the First Kaisa Festival and for making the Arnis competition successful.

“The event was very well organized due to the assistance of other departments and agencies such as the Tourism Office, Tarlac Police Station, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the City Information Office,” said Arnold Rodriguez, head of the City Sports Development Division.

During the championship, Vice Mayor Aro Mendoza was present to show his support.
Tapitapi, in the Modern Arnis lexicon, was the preferred term for “counter for counter” in the context of stick play.
